I'm Going to Africa, Baby!
We’re going on a safari, but I’m not worried at all. A safari is all about nature and nature loves us right? RIGHT?
Kenya in all it’s naturalistic glory.
I've been working on this amazing plan to go to Nairobi, Kenya to meet up with two friends I met in Cambodia, who moved there for work reasons. At least one of them did. I'll be able to spend lots of time with the other. The only problem is she keeps talking about going on a safari. Normally, I'd say Black people don't go on safaris, but that would be a lie. I'm sure many Black people in Nairobi probably do this once a year. I'll ask Lupita N'yongo next time I see her.
So, on February 25, 2025, I'm going to make this trip and see the part of the world I haven't seen yet. The Motherland. The continent that spawned all of humantiy. One small part of the world's most massive continent, Africa. I don't think I've been more excited about anything before.
Despite my reputation for "traveling the world," I've never been to the place I've always needed to go. Cambodia, Mexico, and Estonia were great, but what I hope to feel on this trip to Africa is "Home." Up to this point, I've been listening to people speak about a place I've never been. That's also what African Americans say when they visit.
There are no black pilots, black merchants, or black mail carriers. Every one was black from the leaders in the cities to people of the people in farmlands. It felt like I was home.
Home... I hope that I can have that same feeling. I would like to go to Nairobi and feel like I'm at home too. I've met people from Africa before, but I can't remember an ill thing they've said about it. Maybe I could have been more inquisitive, but I'll have fun on this trip.
Ha! You fools! Nairobi is a tech hub! Gotcha (hopefully)!
So, to all the fans I have, of music I've made, movie reviews I've completed, or who love my random stories. You don't have to, but I'd love any help you'd like to give by buying a Mike Dynamo or Supercrime record, dropping money on Substack, Wise, or Cashapp. I've been saving all the money I'd need for the trip, but I could be wrong. I hear Nairobi, Kenya can be a bit expensive.
Also, to any friends from anywhere in Africa who read this, please feel free to comment or email things to do, meals to try, and clubs to visit. I keep joking that if this trip is good enough, I might not bother coming back to the U.S. despite my trip being set for three weeks. That’s just me being silly.
Then again, you never know...
So stay up, everyone! Look for me in late March, and feel free to ask me whatever you want to know. I think my friend Jessi wants to film everything we do while I'm out there. Maybe we'll turn it into a YouTube reality show or do a Coming From America thing while I'm out there. Let me know if that's something you're interested in.
Until then, check out my musical legacy with Mike Dynamo & Supercrime, and as always:
